N_1930_03_10_GT_BushmanStrong Namesake still living. When Bishop Vincent, brother of the slain soldier Brigadier General Strong Vincent, cme here to claim the body, he learned that a baby boy had been born to a Mrs. Bushman, to whose home Colonel Vincent had been removed after being wounded. Bishop Vincent asked that the boy be named after his brother. The youngster was christened Vincent Bushman and the mother received a beautiful cut-glass pitcher from the bishop, in appreciation of this act. Vincent Bushman resides in hanover. The gift from the bishop is still in the Bushman family.
A beautiful bronze statue of General Vincent, atop a stone monument, rests on the southern slope of Little Round Top, a few feet from the sopt where the then Colonel Vincent received a gunshot wound that caused his death five days later. |
